Now, you're probably wondering how YouTube could possibly be used to capture your learning in a Personal Learning Environment (PLE). Recently, she has pursued her interest in music (as did my son) via YouTube videos that give piano, guitar, and singing lessons. Her school does not have a formal music program. Not bad for a teenager.
These tools, services and technologies become a part of your personal learning environment or PLE. The PLE is an approach rather than a technology. Much has been written on PLEs, including a wealth of peer reviewed journal articles that feature empirical research. Unported License.
Following on in my series of short ''3 things'' videos, I thought I would have a little fun (well, I am on holiday right now), and so I went out and recorded this video on Edupunk. I hope you enjoy this different, ''bricolage'' approach to making videos - it''s not perfect, but it was never intended to be. Unported License.
I was asked by Grainne Conole to record a short video on my views about Personal Learning Networks, VLEs vs PLEs and other related topics, as a contribution toward her unkeynote with Ricardo Torres Kompen for the PLE conference in Aviero, Portugal this week. Unported License.
Check out this little gem from Dan Kennedy on the VLE/PLE debate. Over time game consoles and video games have been portrayed as a male oriented technology. The study found that game consoles and video games can have a positive impact on girls’ learning and motivation and are key themes that have been raised by teachers.
I watched this morning's PLE conference (#pleconf) unkeynote by Grainne Conole and Ricardo Torres Kompen, which was streamed live from Aveiro, in Portugal. Grainne and Ricardo had crowdsourced much of their presentation, through a series of video clips, blogs and tweets.

I first met Joyce at the first Personal Learning Environment (PLE) conference in Barcelona in 2009 and we have been friends ever since. I also met George for the first time at the Barcelona PLE event. In the centre of the photo is Joyce Seitzinger. Far right is George Couros.
I first met Alec Couros among that amazing gathering of people at the inaugural PLE (Personal Learning Environment) conference in Barcelona, in 2010. Alec is what you would call a 'connected educator', and you can watch him talking about this in an interview with Howard Rheingold during a video webcast.
Blogging has always been one of the ways I best express my ideas, and coupled with teaching, public speaking and a number of interviews on video and through podcasting, it has been my main channel of communication and dialogue with my professional community in recent years. Anatomy Of A PLE (>29,000 views) 9. Honourable mentions: 6.
The video below is the result of that interview, in which I answer questions such as: what emerging technology trends have the greatest potential for learning? I was interviewed recently by the team from Sponge UK in the beautiful gardens of Drake's Place, at Plymouth University. Unported License.
An body of literature, books and videos has emerged in recent years explaining the benefits of the personalised curriculum, espousing individualised assessment and championing student centred learning. It would be too expensive to manage a personalised education system that suited everyone's needs and preferences.
They not only had to create the videos or image sets, but determine what exactly the learning outcomes were. You might say these are 'strainge sessions' (I love the alternative spelling) in the sense that they don't comply with conventional educational practice.
