At the individual level, intrinsic motivation drives educators to actively seek opportunities that support their diverse learning interests and needs. Social media has played a considerable role in this area over the years, demonstrating the power of PersonalLearning Networks (PLNs) with learning anytime, anywhere, and with anyone.
For the most part, this consisted of attending mandatory district “PD” days, professionallearning communities (PLC)’s or approved off-site experiences such as conferences, workshops, or webinars. In March of 2009, I began to use Twitter, and it was at this time that I began to create a PersonalLearning Network (PLN).
However, like their students, teachers need personalized growth opportunities to stay engaged, motivated, and effective. Teachers are the backbone of any thriving learning environment. Nevertheless, just like their students, educators thrive in personalizedlearning experiences.
Professional development (PD) is something that is typically "done" to educators. On the other hand, professionallearning is something they actively WANT to engage in to grow. In this piece of #EDvice below, I dive into a mindset shift from professional development to professionallearning.
Leading professionallearning, teaching a lesson, participating in a PLC (professionallearning community), or flipping a faculty meeting are all ways that leaders can model the same practices that they want their staff to embrace. This is just one example. In my opinion, this statement pertains to any author or speaker.
I also hear this when I am facilitating targeted workshops. While this is undoubtedly important, it is also vital to gather input on professionallearning and resources that are needed— more of this down the road. From here, specific requests can be made for professionallearning support on personalized strategies.
While it won't replace the irreplaceable human touch in the classroom, AI can significantly enhance teaching and learning by offering personalization, efficiency, and insightful data analysis. PersonalizedLearning Pathways Imagine a classroom where each student receives instruction tailored to their specific needs.
In Disruptive Thinking in Our Classrooms , I honed in on research-based strategies that have withstood the test of time in addition to emerging strategies such as personalizedlearning. Chunked ProfessionalLearning Time is the most precious resource for educators these days.
Asynchronous PersonalizedLearning The critical tenet of personalizedlearning is all learners getting what they need when and where they need it. There needs to be a shift from “PD” to professionallearning that is ongoing, job-embedded, and research-aligned.

Learn from more experienced leaders : Seek out mentors or coaches who can provide guidance and support as you develop. This can help you to identify areas where you need to focus your professionallearning efforts. Practice self-reflection : Take time to reflect on your strengths and areas for growth.
The fact remains that there was no professionallearning to prepare for the reality that everyone is facing nor a plan for something like COVID19. I always like to focus on the small wins when I am facilitating professionallearning with schools and districts. My favorites are Mentimeter and Padlet.
I can honestly say that I have learned so much from them over the years as to what pedagogically-sound blended learning really is, and, in my mind, they are a global exemplar for others to emulate. Their influence can be seen and heard in my writing, presentations, workshops, and work with other schools. Challenge accepted!
Developing and implementing professionallearning is also an effective way to lead by example and build better relationships with staff. Creating or further developing a PersonalLearning Network (PLN) is also essential to access 24/7 ideas, strategies, feedback, resources, and support.
First and foremost, make the time to learn, grown, and get better as opposed to finding the time. There is nothing more important to an educator, outside of working with kids, than professionallearning. Through social media a PersonalLearning Network (PLN) provides a great antidote to the age-old time excuse.

The same can be said about drive-by professional development. Like change, learning is a process, not an event. There should always be a long-term plan following any keynote or workshop.
