As we head into the spring, we may notice a decrease in studentengagement. For some students, there have been midterm exams, extended school breaks, or we find ourselves in the middle of standardized testing season. Students should also be part of the process of deciding on different tools to try.
Here are some of my thoughts from 2013 , which have aged nicely: Digital leadership considers recent changes such as ubiquitous connectivity, open-source technology, mobile devices, and personalization. Kids are learning – but for way too many it occurs outside of the school environment rather than during school. Given today’s technologies, it makes sense and is exciting that learning occurs after schools hours, but for exciting, engaging, and profound learning not to occur during school hours is, simply put, a travesty.
I am constantly advocating for other school leaders and educators to embrace this powerful tool to improve communications, enhance public relations, establish a positive brand presence, grow professionally through the formation of a PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN), increase studentengagement, and discover a world of opportunity.

The world continues to change as a result of technological advances. Make no mistake about it; technology is shaping the world in ways that we could never have imagined. It is important to sift through the fluffy ideas that abound as well as the allure of the tools and begin to integrate technology with purpose when appropriate.
