Social media allows us to connect, to learn, to grow and to reflect not only within ourselves but with each other. Recently, on a webinar with my friend Erin Olson , she talked about an activity she does with teachers. Our personallearningnetworks are all different. But that is where the beauty lies.
Webinars Improved bandwidth and increased access to technology have helped learning through webinars gain in popularity. While every webinar is broadcast live at a set time, what makes them very appealing is that they are archived for convenient viewing. Here are some no-cost (or relatively low-cost) options.
For the most part, this consisted of attending mandatory district “PD” days, professional learning communities (PLC)’s or approved off-site experiences such as conferences, workshops, or webinars. In March of 2009, I began to use Twitter, and it was at this time that I began to create a PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN).

You can create the traditional in-depth guides but also video content or gamified content, spice up presentations, hold webinars, and so much more. The most important thing to have is a centralized hub for all activities, including online courses, discussion forums, webinars, and the ability to schedule events such as workshops.
There are also numerous free webinars available throughout the year. One of the most powerful means of professional development is through the use of social media where educators can create their own PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN) based entirely on their unique needs and passions.
The traditional forms of sit-and-get PD are giving way to MOOCs, webinars, Edcamps and flipped learning.
