As of late I have been engaged in a great amount of work either assisting districts and schools as they begin to implement mobilelearning ( 1:1, BYOD ) or helping them get their programs on track. Thus, many lessons were learned the hard way. Have you created policies that protect students and staff while promoting creativity?
I cannot begin to explain all of the battles with students and parents that my administrative team and I had to deal with because of the established policy. This shift in mindset can be directly attributed to what I have learned from innovative educators in the social media spaces that I now delve into on a routine basis.
Put that in the context of learning and what do you get? Mobilelearning of course. Mobilelearning is now a movement and it’s not just about picking up a tablet and off you go. Mobilelearning is about transforming how everyone can access shared knowledge and resources. But that’s just the start.
There is no doubt in my mind that this process limited the amount of students who opted to bring their own mobilelearning devices to school. There have been many lessons learned from this journey, the most important being that the students have greatly appreciated this shift. Students need to fully understand that they are tools for learning. Make consistent efforts to refer to them as mobilelearning devices. Treat students like 21 st Century adolescents.
