Fortunately for me I have already begun to work with my staff and students to transform the teaching and learning culture at New Milford HS as it pertains to cell phones as mobilelearning devices. By the end of last school year many more teachers were incorporating mobilelearning devices into their instruction.
Begin to strategically utilize an array of free social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate important information (student honors, staff accomplishments, meetings, emergency information) to stakeholders in real-time. Don''t wait another second to start building a PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN).
A connected learning model is empowering and ultimately creates a human-generated search engine for the most practical ideas and strategies being implemented in schools today. Using the work of Lyn Hilt as a model, Chapter 8 will provide leaders with the knowledge and tools to create their own PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN).
ICT – Information Communications Technology. IOT – Internet of Things (Connecting devices to a network i.e. lights, phones, TVs). LMS – Learning Management System (software that runs and manages educational programs). MLD – MobileLearning Devices. MLearning – MobileLearning.
It was at this time that I saw the error in my ways and began to leverage the power of a PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN) to effectively integrate an array of tools that I had never knew existed. We also had to trust they would use their mobilelearning devices (i.e. technology, including social media.
Don''t get me wrong, the summer months are invaluable to me as I spend my time immersed in the flow of information that my social networks provide, developing action plans, analyzing data, and hiring staff. Many of the initiatives that I am about to pursue either came directly or indirectly from my PersonalLearningNetwork (PLN).

The word ''education'' may also be an exclusive term, connoting formal affiliation with an academic institution, and thus inappropriate as a description for a lot of learning activity. But many more are learninginformally, on a daily basis, as access to the web through personal connected technologies increases.
