I also am unwilling to retire iLearn Technology all together. I hope that you’ll continue to find reasons to come to iLearn Technology. Not to get too in the weeds about that process, but essentially I’m looking at Next Generation Science standards, Colorado Social Studies Standards, and Common Core as I build each block.
There are also phenomenal standards-aligned subject guides to think about how Short Answer might be used in your classroom or a specific area of study.

The homepage includes the most up-to-date content, but students also have the option to read articles based on a passion they have (science, social studies, world events, environment, fun, video, or sports) or to search for a specific topic. The site is very easy for kids to navigate.
If your students do an author study, this site could be useful for helping them find related authors and then using Wolfram Alpha to compare the authors they find side by side. Students can discover new voices, genres, and keep the love of reading alive. Tips: Hat tip to @michellek107 for sharing this with Anastasis staff this week!
They are a great kick-off to more in-depth studies of light, sound, and motion and teach students how to use the sensors on their phone and computer to collect data. The activities are simple enough for any classroom, and lead the students through understanding how the world around them works.
In the science classroom, students can: share each step of an experiment through the scientific method with each step being a new video, document dissection, reflect on failures, show the process of building or designing, make predictions, document process, demonstrate, post wonderings, or class challenges.
In social studies, students could snap a photo of a place on the map, and then overlay their learning on top. In art class, students could take a photo of their creation and then overlay an explanation about how they created their art, their inspiration, etc.
What it is: GeoGuessr is a fun map-based game where students get virtually “dropped” somewhere in the world, and must explore the landscape around them through Google Street View to determine where in the world they are. When they’ve determined where in the world they are, they click on the world map to make a guess.
What it is: Check 123 is a new video encyclopedia site for kids. All videos are validated and ranked by Check123 professionals, are 1-3 minutes in length, and a curated on just about any subject you can think of.
Students chose which innovation they wanted to do a more in-depth study of and would, ultimately, create dominoes based on. The students painted them different colors according to the innovation they were studying (a different color for each innovation). For the dominoes, we snagged a bunch of the flat-rate shipping boxes from USPS.
If you don’t have access to a 1:1 environment, this would make a great center on classroom computers during a study on energy or even for whole-class play on an interactive whiteboard throughout a unit on energy. This game would be a great simulation reflection to see how different decisions about energy play out.

How could our social studies curriculum fail to mention the capital of the United States? I didn’t stop at social studies, I took the reading, writing, math, and science curriculum home for kindergarten through fifth grade. At this point I started to panic a little.
Though I don’t hold a degree in educational technology, my years of independent study should be captured! As an educator, StackUp immediately appealed to me for the way that it could capture my own learning.
What it is: My Simple Show Video Creator lets students easily create professional level “explainer” videos. The finished product looks just like a Common Craft video, so cool! The step-by-step tool helps students think about storyline and the flow of explaining a concept.
