His knowledge of and interest in both the EdTech world and the importance of a STEM education highlight the importance of inquiry-based education, DIY cultures and technology for enhanced learning as crucial 21st century activities.
There has been a fair amount of criticism leveraged against “paint-by-numbers” types of STEM and maker kits. The basic and foundational skills need to be there in order for the makers to go in directions that are new and creative for them. . The kids in both groups thoroughly enjoyed making the projects.
If this is how the makerspace is set up in your school, then your kids may not have access to the resources, materials, and tools when they need them, especially for STEM or STEAM. One group made an augmented reality tour of the school. You can also bundle experiences into groups to use in scavenger hunts as well. Utilizing the approach of learning through doing, the teachers were simultaneously learning about one of the most innovative concepts in science education today, the MakerMovement. They then discussed the real world application of this MakerMovement activity to a classroom. It was a very great collaborative day!

Each time I see this I am impressed by the educator, or group of educators, trying to make such a space possible for their school.
He has spent the last two months interviewing experts throughout the makermovement with the goal of creating a self-paced course for anyone who wants to design a makerspace. They will need to have a maker mindset. The more they develop a maker mindset, the better they are at designing their own systems for their creative work.

Following Hack Your Notebook Day, a nationwide paper circuitry and applied STEM learning event held this summer that brought together makers from around the country, libraries and other connected learning spaces have continued “hacking” notebooks by holding independent events for diverse groups of learners around the country.
