If we want to utilize generative AI as a tool to help our students, we need to ensure that we provide ALL of them with the tools and time to learn how to harness its abilities. Jennifer Gonzalez’s presentation, “ Next-Level Edtech: Are We Thinking Big Enough? ,” also resonated with me.
Second, the global conversation about the inadequacies and failures of the present system is uniform among all teachers, everywhere. Accept a disturbing fact: We can’t ‘train’ a future-ready teacher. And burnout has its limits—at some point it turns to anger. They know the deficiencies. Rather, connect teachers worldwide.
As mentioned in my previous post 16 Great NonProfits Working to Support EdTech in Schools , prior to my role as the Director of Innovation for FutureReady Schools, I spent 14 years in a public school in Pennsylvania as an elementary and middle school teacher, middle school and elementary principal, and district level technology director.
Generously supported by Ted Dintersmith and in cooperation with the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders , the goal was to kick off a three-year investment in leadership capacity-building across the state for future-readylearning, teaching, and schooling. We have 72 participants representing 14 school districts.
Creativity helps develop a deeper sense of learning, yet we keep our “creative” units until after state testing is over. Being future-ready is more than just being ready for college or securing a job; it’s thinking creatively about the problems we face as a society. It’s letting them discover the joy of learning.”
Librarians are at the forefront of helping schools become “futureready.” The Alliance for Excellent Education (the Alliance) launched its FutureReady Schools (FRS) initiative in October 2014 with the aim of leveraging technology and connectivity to personalize and transform learning.
The learning experience must be redesigned and made personal. Learning spaces must become learner-centered. Professionallearning must be relevant, engaging, ongoing, and made personal. Technology must be leveraged and used as an accelerant for student learning. It’s hard to argue with any of these.
Change is inevitable, and while it’s important to design lessons with an end result in mind, it’s difficult to prepare students for a future that doesn’t exist yet.
