For our beginning of the year passion projects, some students chose to teach others about our robotic filming Swivl tool and app. MakerMovement. Many schools are creating maker spaces or “ Fab Labs ” so students have a space and place to invent. Some people might call it a personal interest project.
My answer to you is this: We must bring more arts programming—and blend it with the makermovement—into our schools. So then… how are “making” and the makermovement uniquely powerful as avenues of learning—and where might it come up against resistance? What about film ?
The moving device with the trailing feathers and LED would encourage my cat to chase it, hence getting a little exercise prior to catching the reward of her cat food situated on the truck bed. The makermovement is driven by the DIY movement, creating and recreating new “things.” Yea – it works.
They often contain the tools, machinery, and technologies associated with making – 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, high tech robotics, vocational tech machinery. Problems occur when administrators, educators, learners, and communities come to believe that maker education is synonymous with these tools and spaces.
