The advent of social media introduced yet another responsibility into my already packed schedule: digital leadership. Creating or further developing a Personal Learning Network (PLN) is also essential to access 24/7 ideas, strategies, feedback, resources, and support.

At the individual level, intrinsic motivation drives educators to actively seek opportunities that support their diverse learning interests and needs. Social media has played a considerable role in this area over the years, demonstrating the power of Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) with learning anytime, anywhere, and with anyone.

My father was an elementary principal for 30 years and I always admired how he was able to inspire his staff to focus on student learning. If I was graded I would have probably received an A for running my school where strict rules had to be followed by students, mobile devices banned, and all social media blocked.

21st Century Leadership Shift Happens (must see video for any educator unfamiliar with the tends and impacts associated with technology and social media. 21st Century Educators must be able to adapt, communicate, take risks, model, continually learn, collaborate, exhibit vision, and lead. Shortly after arriving in the Houston area I was contacted by Cheryl Fisher , a local CFISD elementary principal. She had been following me on Twitter and asked if I would be willing to visit her school and see how they were implementing blended learning across all grade levels. What I saw just warmed my heart, but more on this later.
