I also am unwilling to retire iLearnTechnology all together. I hope that you’ll continue to find reasons to come to iLearnTechnology. These days, rather than merely sharing a technology tool that I’ve found useful, I want to do so within a broader context. Secondly, I still have so much to share!
This past week, we traveled to the Golden, Colorado to attend the Conference of Online and Blended Learning (COBL), put on by the iLearn Collaborative. Roots Elementary School in Denver, Colo. Students at Roots Elementary are not constrained by grade levels and instead learn in an open area called “ the Grove ” (pictured below).

Each step of the way they are supported and challenged as needed thanks to the adaptive technology built-in! While MobyMax focuses mostly on the Understand/Knowledge levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, it is a really fantastic (and reasonably priced) way for your students to gain math and reading fluency practice.

One of the major benefits of using technology in the classroom is the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every student in every lesson. I had a great time helping other teachers learn how to use technology, and coming up with ideas for how they could integrate it into their classrooms. I decided that I was going to take all of the curriculum home over the summer and create supplemental guides using technology to help teach what wasn’t in the curriculum.
I love technology built by teachers—it’s just different. You can feel the truth and passion behind it. It has features that you know were intentionally considered by someone who has been in the classroom. Short Answer is a fantastic writing tool that was obviously built by teachers solving real problems for real students.
What it is: Get Qurious is a company who’s goal is to keep kids curious, creative, and expressive by combining technology and play. While it does blend technology and play, I wouldn’t call it a Maker Box. The Get Qurious Maker Box is packed full of interactive play opportunities.
Augmented reality is the mix of technology and the real world. What it is: Aurasma is an app (also a website) that allows learners to quickly create augmented reality experiences for others. Probably the most popular or, at least the most commonly used, augmented reality is the use of Snapchat filters.
How to integrate SAM Labs into the classroom: SAM Labs boasts itself as a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) tool. I’m imagining all of the new directions SAM Labs could take our inquiry blocks this year! But SAM blocks are so flexible, that I think that they reach beyond these few subjects.

What it is: Be Internet Awesome is a fantastic new way to help your students make the most of the Internet by being prepared to make wise decisions as they navigate and interact online. Be Internet Awesome helps teach students the basics of digital citizenship and safety online.
What it is: Check 123 is a new video encyclopedia site for kids. All videos are validated and ranked by Check123 professionals, are 1-3 minutes in length, and a curated on just about any subject you can think of.
What it is: GeoGuessr is a fun map-based game where students get virtually “dropped” somewhere in the world, and must explore the landscape around them through Google Street View to determine where in the world they are. When they’ve determined where in the world they are, they click on the world map to make a guess.
What it is: Magik Play sent me a Starter Kit to review, and boy am I glad they did! The Magik Play is a beautiful blend of digital and physical. Students download an app on their iPad and use wooden blocks that interact with the iPad screen to build structures that interact with the illustrations on the app.

What it is: BombBomb is an email service that lets you record and embed video directly in your email. That is a totally oversimplified explanation because BombBomb does SO much more.
What it is: Making & Science is an initiative by Google aimed at showing students that anyone can be a maker or a scientist. Using the featured Science Journal app (Android and Chromebook only), students can measure light, sound, and more. They can also use the app to record observations, organize data, and add observational notes.
What it is: Adobe Spark is a collection of fantastic (free!) creative tools available online or as an app download. Create social graphics that are stunning and easy to share (you know the kind: flyers, memes, posters, ads). The example above took under 2min to create and share!
What it is: Literature Map is a literature recommendation system. It is really easy to discover a new author. Start by searching for an author you enjoy, and magically a map of names will appear based on what other readers of that author have read. The closer that two writers are on the map, the more likely it is that you will like both of them.

DOGO features thousands of news articles and new original content added daily, this is the leading online source of current events for students, teachers, and schools!
What it is: I adore the DragonBox math apps ! I was first introduced to DragonBox through their Algebra app. The app takes away all math anxiety by teaching algebraic concepts without numbers or algorithms. It is genius! You can read my review of that app here.

What it is: Starting with Soil is a free app from the Whole Kids Foundation that teaches the importance of healthy soil and lets kids discover the harmonious roles that plants, animals, and people play in keeping it healthy. This high-quality, interactive app lets kids explore the life in soil through lots of interactive experiences.
What it is: Hello Ruby began as a whimsical children’s book by Linda Liuka meant to help kids learn about computers, technology, and programming. Beyond the introduction to technology and coding, I love the Ruby character and all of her friends. It is well suited for primary kids, but truly anyone (adults included!)
What it is: Woot Math uses adaptive technology to personalize the math learning experience in new ways for 3rd-6th grade students. Do all of your students have access to a technology device? If you are using Woot Math with limited technology access, beginning with the Interactive Problem Bank is best.

The social constructs in place, the historical moments of pivot, the technological advances, the impact of religion, the scientific discoveries, our perspective as a country, and the political climate in general. This could be a good launching point that leads to discussions about what else is going on historically that impacts these changes.
What it is: Inkscape is like the open source version of Adobe Illustrator. What really sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics as it’s native format. Oh yeah, and it’s free. Because open source!!
