I miss the cadence of posting regularly and interacting with my education friends virtually. I also am unwilling to retire iLearn Technology all together. For all of my education friends who have been with me since 2007, I can’t tell you how enormously grateful I am for all of you. I miss it.
Tips: Prodigy is completely free for you to use as an educator with your students. All of the educational skills and teacher features are completely free with no time limits that some sites have. I love when they get so into learning that they want to carry on all on their own. Curious about how we use technology at Anastasis?

At this point I had convinced myself that technology would be the savior of education. Problem solved!

I love technology built by teachers—it’s just different. You can feel the truth and passion behind it. The problem with education reform is that we keep attempting to change surface level systems and hoping for deep systemic change as a result. If you’ve been involved in education for any amount of time, you begin to see a pattern emerge. That education should be rigorous. We have to change our minds.

In 2010, I thought that technology might be the savior of education. I created the Learning Genome Project as an attempt to make it possible to personalize education for every child. This project took a detour when I realized that, in the United States, we exist within a system that has not been designed to educate the individual.
Perhaps the most disheartening outcome of the systematization of education is the way that it dehumanizes classrooms. Emboldened by being ‘the best,’ our education system has become blinded to the individual. May we, as educators, stand up and defend the humanity in our classrooms! The student-with-a-name.

But in education, we make a lot of decisions without these specific students-with-names in mind. When we talk about education, too often the focus is on learning all the right things, equipping kids with the right content and answers. It is about finding the educators who can draw students out, who can foster humanity and connection.
So often I see the same sentiment from educators involved in education dialogue, “Wouldn’t it be nice if a school were doing _. ” As an educator, I felt the same. For all of you who have dreamed a different kind of school, a different kind of education, this conference is for you. Kelly Tenkely.

As an educator I know that when we take away all of the labels that we use to categorize each other, when we look each other in the eye and listen to each other’s stories, we find out that we are all human after all. The last week has been heartbreaking to watch unfold. The stripping away of humanity.
What it is: The Learning Genome Project started nearly 8 years ago in response to a sense of urgency to make education more about those it serves: students. In the process of building the Learning Genome, I came to a realization that even if this perfect tool existed, there wasn’t the infrastructure in schools to fully utilize it.
