When it comes to modernizing their learning environments, leaders at private, charter and independent schools have many concerns. And any technological changes, no matter how much improvement they might bring, need to be carefully considered and vetted. After all, these schools are often smaller than the average public school, with limited people power, and dont often benefit from public funding sources.
Despite challenges such as increasing workloads, burnout and staff shortages, schools have new opportunities to innovate. According to a Gallup poll, 44% of K12 workers reported being always or very often burned out at work. Earlier this year, the U.N. issued a global alert regarding a teacher shortage, and 44 million more primary and secondary teachers will be needed worldwide by 2030, according to UNESCO.
Generative AI holds tremendous promise for all stakeholders in higher education. But guardrails are needed. Strong governance that empower instructors are at the core of a responsible approach to using generative AI in academia.
