Firstly, as digital natives, students seldom feel at a disadvantage when it comes to understanding online activities and behavior – leaving teachers often times adrift on a shifting sea of uncertainty. In my previous post we explored what computational thinking is, and why teachers should consider teaching it in their classrooms. I observed then that many teachers will no doubt be teaching this method of problem analysis and solution discovery in their classrooms, some of whom may never have even heard of “computational thinking”. Which serves as a credit to the many teachers who continue to train their students to solve problems, using rigorous methods of examination, discovery and logic.

At 17 years old, Christine Johns sat in a university classroom surrounded by men and women who were devastated as Pittsburgh's steel industry collapsed around them. Displaced steelworkers and stay-at-home mothers found themselves desperate for an education—and the work it would help secure. We need to find ways to give our children access to current and future technologies that will allow them to fully participate in our global economy.
