The Edcamp model of professional development is unique in that the participants drive the learning. Participants decide what topics they would like to discuss and record them on sticky notes—or in case of a virtual Edcamp, topics can be recorded in a shared Google Doc, Padlet, or Jamboard.
Professional Development and Faculty Meetings are typically held face-to-face and many times are longer than they need to be, or too much time is spent on things that only affect a small percentage of those present. There are some tools and resources that can be used to change how and when PD and Meetings are held.
This year, many of us will spend hours in school meetings feeling demotivated, bored, unappreciated, and stressed. Therefore, I’m sending you on a mission to have a conversation with your leadership about changing how meetings are organized at your school. Mission: Value Your Time.

Which drives home the point that while my virtual learning is such an important part of who I am and what I do, I still crave these opportunities to meet people face to face and sit and have a conversation. I truly enjoy meeting people I talk to online. Edcamps and TeachMeets are another example of how this can happen.

Meeting up with my friend Rachelle Poth on the last day led to one of my greatest moments of reflection. For me, that moment was a realization that ISTE meets needs in many different ways for many different personality types. Why not meet them where they already are looking?
My building connections no longer served me well enough to meet my needs. Educators would come to these groups to discuss topics that we were all interested in, but were not being discussed in faculty rooms or faculty meetings or not even in the provided Professional Development sessions. This led me to both SKYPE and Google Hangout.
For instance, this year I have a goal to work on my Google Educator Certifications. As a technology coordinator, I believe this will give me a skill set that will aid me in supporting the teachers at my Google Suites adopted school. This is my fifth year of participating in this edcamp unconference in Chattanooga, TN.

My informal leadership experience (not even sure what would fall under that category; speaking gigs, writing, organizing 10 years of Edcamps, I really am not sure) greatly outweighs my formal experience. I guess you could call that my formal leadership experience. It is important.
