In an effort to provide more definitive answers, districts, schools and a handful of states have begun issuing guidelines on shaping the school day into something both manageable and productive for students. For both students and teachers, online learning has come with a lot of challenges, from the digitaldivide and technology access to mental health impacts , or a lack of essential school and community supports. Should all students and families have the freedom to choose between fully in-person, hybrid, or fully online learning?
Almost no district was truly ready to plunge into remote learning full time and with no end in sight. There is no one-size-fits-all remedy and no must-have suite of digitallearning tools. After dealing with the first priority — making sure students were safe and fed — schools had to figure out how to keep the learning alive.
This kind of connectivity is necessary, the authors note, to help connect students to high-quality digitallearning opportunities. Access to AI-driven resources may vary among schools and students, leading to a digitaldivide. AI has the capacity to exacerbate educational inequalities if not implemented equitably.
