It is still early in the adoption of these digital hiring practices—and how employers deploy them is still very much a “black box.” As those hiring methods go digital, they could speed adoption of new kinds of microcredentials and digitalbadges designed to show employers the fine-grained skills achieved during educational programs.

Next for the newly joined company is expanding the network of issuers who receive and send credentials including transcripts, diplomas, certificates and digitalbadges, says Parchment CEO Matthew Pittinsky, who will lead the new company. District leaders and coaches can design and issue custom micro-credentials when teachers demonstrate skill mastery within the Edthena video platform. Then teachers can gather video evidence and non-video artifacts of those skills and securely share them with a coach or mentor.
Micro-credentials, which provide recognition for these concrete competencies in the form of digitalbadges, could help facilitate this shift. Ideally, the educator would submit a video of the conversation with a reflection of what went well and what might be improved. In fact, I see the systems as complementary.
