Many, many hours a day for a week, sessions from around the globe on just about any topic you can think of, this event is one that you can definitely drop in on when you can. I love Edcamps and the types of PD that take place there. The Edcamp Wiki Calendar has a listing of all the upcoming camps. Can''t get to an Edcamp F2F?
A dynamic mash-up of workshops and coaching definitely falls into the sweet spot. On-going and job-embedded experiences lead to sustained changes to practice and improve student outcomes when it comes to results. It is crucial always to align any professional learning with current trends and needs.
In todays podcast, Edcamp Foundation executive director Hadley Ferguson teaches us how to start our very own edcamps in our schools and our communities. Jeff sits down with Hadley Ferguson, the Executive Director of the Edcamp Foundation and Shannon Montague, an edcamp organizer and educator to discuss the edcamp movement.
This past Saturday I attended Edcamp Boston, an "unconference" set in the wonderful Microsoft NERD center overlooking the Charles River in Cambridge. Upon arrival at Edcamp, these are organized into session spaces and times; I popped up a small session: Then, you just GO. Smackdown" sharing session.
This year at ISTE 2015, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Elana Leoni from Edutopia to discuss Mr Lucas’s vision for the future of education and together with Hadley Ferguson and Mary Beth Hertz, we discuss how Edutopia and the Edcamp Foundation are empowering students and teachers to create greatness in classrooms all around the world.
If you don’t have a good pairing with each other, that definitely could happen. During her career, Jodie created and organized Ohio’s first Special Education based EdCamp ( @SpEdCampOH ) and has presented several professional learning opportunities for educators including Ohio Education Technology Conference (OETC) and several EdCamps.
I attended my first EdCamp, called JEDCampNYNJ and on a Sunday last spring. I had this happen to me at ISTE''s opening keynote, which I confess I really disliked, and I definitely find this a plus. At EdCamps, this is a given. So what makes a conference a JEDCamp rather than an EDCamp? If you like a session you stay.
Gerald: They definitely are. He is also one of the organizers of Edcamp Philly ( [link] ) and a founder of All About Explorers ( [link] ). It’s just about being able to solve the equations that you throw in front of them. Vicki: “Ask good questions?” Blog: [link]. Twitter: @geraldaungst.
I hadn''t ever been to an EdCamp before, so to attend two in two days was quite amazing. One event was in person, the other was online (a first not only for me, but for edcamps!). So this is Part I: mainly about the resources I gathered at EdCamp Honolulu , October 19, 2013. Part II will be about EdCamp Online. ?
I’ve talked to some administrators who say, “Hey, we did an EdCamp last month, and the teachers loved it. This, I would fee is a truer definition of the word engagement than how you would typically hear it used in some parts of the educational stratosphere today, where it’s kids active and doing things. They love that autonomy.”.
When asked to describe what demoralization feels like, she says it was actually something of a relief when she discovered the concept—almost like giving it a name and a definition allowed her to start addressing it. But being in the suburbs, it felt to her more like a creep than an outright deluge.
How to Be Awesome at #EdCamp Poster | www.ShakeUpLearning.com | #edchat #hackpd #teaching The #EdCamp Revolution is here to stay! Have you attended an EdCamp yet? In case you haven''t been paying attention, the EdCamp movement is changing the way educators connect and learn. What do you love about EdCamp?
On one day in August before the students came, and again in January of this year we set up Edcamp style PD days. While our PD days weren't like the traditional Edcamp style (we actually came up with the choices instead of the teachers making the choices), the teachers found the days to be useful.
We recently started talking on Twitter about how our kids could collaborate both synchronously and asynchronously, and we were looped in to a conversation about EdCamp Global. — edcamp Global (@edcampGlobal) January 23, 2016. I wish I had clued in to EdCamp Global sooner because it was an amazing opportunity.
Educators are, by definition, continuous learners. They spend their careers striving to become better practitioners, whether through formal professional development activities like workshops and in-service days, or informal engagements like Twitter chats, EdCamps, and virtual coaching and communities.
It is definitely convenient, but does this lead to better learning in the classroom? Look at EdCamp. But innovation is a way of thinking, not simply the way we use technology. For example, is using a “scantron” to mark multiple choice exams innovative? My answer is that it could actually lead to worse learning, faster.
Could be out on the beach, gone fishing, thinking of the next project -- but definitely not there. If you’ve been to an EdCamp , Unconference , Unplugged , or other progressive, learner-directed event, you are familiar with the law of two feet. Typical answer: Not present.
I definitely don’t have all of the answers, but I have a ton of ideas. Had I not had a few articles published and read by local educators, I might not have attended my first EdCamp. Had I not attended my first EdCamp, I wouldn’t have been introduced to so many great tools like Flipgrid and Peardeck!
Great group shot of #edcampusdoed w/ @arneduncan pic.twitter.com/oex1G4cNcg — Zac Chase (@MrChase) May 29, 2015 #EdCampUSA On Friday, May 29, I had the privilege to attend #EdCampUSA (aka EdCamp DOED) in Washington D.C. This was no ordinary EdCamp. This EdCamp was held at the U.S. One thing was definitely clear.
With the social media buzz around the Apple Teacher Program , we’ve definitely seen how this resource sparks enthusiasm for learning new ideas. With everyone’s plate relatively full, it can often be challenging to arouse enthusiasm for reimagining teaching and learning.
We go to edcamps, conferences, webinars, etc. The old adage of ‘less is more’ most definitely rings true with technology integration. If you think about the staggering amount of edtech services out there, coupled with the numerous types of devices, it can feel pretty overwhelming to most people.
I use social media to share the things I've learned via blogs to help others, I've asked people to join me at educational events like Edcamp Gig City and CoffeeEDU, I've asked people to support me in my JDRF walks to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, and more recently I've reached out to an entire city to help me find my lost dog.
As a classroom teacher, I would have definitely described myself as a “Tech-Fearless Educator”. I’ve always enjoyed exploring to learn and definitely embraced that in my own teaching and learning. What I love most about “edcamps” is that they are 100% driven by the collective knowledge of the group.
Sometimes we hear about so many different tools from conferences, edcamps, and workshops it can be a little overwhelming. If you are passionate about digital citizenship or digital learning tools, then you will definitely want to consider the path of certification. Take a deep dive. This is when I turn to the EdTech Quick Take videos.

When Sean Crevier accidentally wandered into the room where educators at a Milwaukee Edcamp were discussing 20 percent time projects, also known as Genius Hour , he stayed only out of politeness. By far the most important step to ensure these projects go smoothly, in his experience, is the problem definition phase.
It inspired me to start planning the first edcamp buffalo (@edcampbflo)! I am enjoying working through all the back episodes, and definitely look forward to the upcoming new episodes. I give this app 5 stars for its superb content and speakers! I now listen to it on my way to work in the morning! A Great Listen! Highly Recommended!
It’s definitely time for a revisit. Participate’s Jennifer Williams shares that the goal is to be the glue , pulling together the array of possible professional development options–edCamps, Twitter chats, workshops, conferences, PLN sharing, and more–into one uniform experience.
The low-cost Google Cardboard viewer, which works with virtual reality apps like Discovery VR , gives students a 360-degree view of the world and gives “virtual field trips” a whole new definition. And over at Nearpod, the company recently launched Nearpod VR.

Hundreds of conferences, workshops, MOOCS, edcamps, professional journals, blogs, the list seriously goes on and on. If something above resonated with you, and you thought, “this is MY topic of passion,” you should definitely propose a session. There are a lot of options for professional development.
Teaching students how to critically look at online information is a definite skill for all of us. I offer help in my community through edcamps and technology conferences. Many years ago I would create fake websites that made no sense to what my students were studying about and send them to the web address. Digital literacy.
Since this change, I have… attended #edcamps. taken veteran teachers, administrators, board members and preservice teachers to #edcamps. facilitated at 3 #edcamps and at ConnectED in March of this year. My students often remark that I smile and laugh more than anyone they know and definitely more than any other teacher.
At an EdCamp, unconference-like event early this year in my school district, teachers expressed interest in having a conversation about equity of access. They also showed important agency for their learning by approaching me for an interview.
