What role should employers have in the design or execution of digitallearning opportunities? Those were a couple of the questions debated at #DLNchat on Tuesday, October 9, when we discussed how nontraditional education providers could influence the future of digitallearning.
The metaverse is most commonly associated with extended reality technology (virtual reality and augmented reality), as well as with social media capabilities and the use of digital avatars controlled by users. Additionally, the use of avatars within the metaverse delivers something akin to student-centered learning.
In collaboration with HP and Microsoft’s Reinvent the Classroom Initiative, Digital Promise Global is launching two new programs that celebrate teachers and schools who demonstrate powerful teaching and learning with technology. Powerful use of technology contributes to closing the DigitalLearning Gap.
In essence, the use of Google in the classroom is true Googlification, or modeling learning off of Google’s own employee skillset, in that the use of Google and Chromebooks in the classroom aims to turn today’s students into creative and collaborative problem-solvers that know how to intuitively harness online and in-hand technologies.
When designing online learning consideration should be given to how a community can be built around subject content and objectives and how students will interact with the academic and with each other. The institutional learning management system affords a safe and reliable albeit often less than inspiring space for learning.
Whether that is Google Classroom, a Google Doc, a Google Site, SeeSaw, Microsoft Teams, whatever, keep it simple! Furthermore, collaboration and communication tools enable students to work together and communicate more effectively. Platforms like Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams support group projects, discussions, and peer feedback, fostering a collaborativelearning environment.

Could Google Draw be used for a collaborative visual thinking activity such as Chalk Talk, or Zoom breakout rooms be used for online critique and revision? Perhaps a digitallearning journal could be employed to promote reflection. They make the content come alive and provide ownership and engagement which is essential to PBL.
