Accept a disturbing fact: We can’t ‘train’ a future-ready teacher. Reinventing professionallearning depends on our willingness to foster internal regulation, openness to problem solving, and self-awareness. By far, this is the steepest challenge. But, come to think of it, isn’t that we’re asking of students now?
From Providence, Rhode Island to Phoenix, Arizona, I’ve had the privilege to travel and work with over 2,300 district leaders from almost 500 school districts over the past year through the FutureReady Initiative. These concerns are real and often become roadblocks for student learning.
As I engage with districts and schools regularly, they frequently inquire about ways to gauge the outcomes and efficacy of their innovative strategies, such as BYOD, 1:1, blended and personalized learning, classroom and school redesign, branding, makerspaces, and professional development.
The shift to FutureReady Schools with blended and digital learning is dramatically changing the role of the school leader and requires focused attention on the critical importance of school culture in a successful transition. AI, digital learning tools, and personalized supports have become central to the classroom.
