In our latest publication, Micro-credentials for Social Mobility in Rural Postsecondary Communities: A Landscape Report , Digital Promise conducted four in-depth casestudies to explore how postsecondary institutions are using micro-credentials to create real-time career pathways for rural learners.
Casestudies provide a glimpse into how vision, strategic planning, and implementation drive results-oriented change. In a time when so many schools and districts are looking to technology as a means to improve student learning, casestudies have become an essential tool to illustrate the benefits to stakeholders.
Professional development is out; professionallearning is in. We describe how researchers and experienced teachers, there, scaffold fellow science teachers who are learning inquiry pedagogy through inquiry. In this week’s blog post we visit Singapore schools again.
Districts across the nation are exploring a new approach to professionallearning to meet the evolving needs of today’s diverse classrooms and the educators who lead them. Early adopters like Kettle Moraine provide compelling casestudies for the benefits of implementing thoughtful incentives for micro-credentials.
Not only was there a focus on solid instruction, but we also provided numerous supports for our teachers in the form of ongoing and job-embedded professionallearning opportunities. If the expectation was to integrate technology with purpose to support or enhance learning, we made sure everyone was prepared to do just that.
Namely, this was the first formal introduction of competency-based professionallearning through micro-credentials in Puerto Rico. Our new casestudy report highlights the effectiveness and impact of professionallearning support for technology integration and use, including competency-based micro-credentials, for educators.
To support teachers in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to facilitate optimal learning experiences under this new initiative, HISD and the University of San Diego (USD) teamed up with Digital Promise to pilot a competency-based professionallearning model supported by micro-credentials. Beyond the Challenge Collaboratives, districts throughout the League are sharing knowledge and best practices within Cohorts, whose topics range from Innovative Assessment to Competency-based ProfessionalLearning. They also shared powerful stories of innovative work in their districts through the second #DPLIS Film Festival.
Many of the organizations, which are listed alphabetically, have free tools, research, casestudies, and resources that can seamlessly be utilized and implemented at the district and school levels. Additionally, two students are going to try their hand at creating a casestudy on crisis leadership (and hopefully submit for publication). One student is diving deep into an inquiry project and another is creating some professionallearning modules for school leaders.
Microcredentials provide an opportunity for educators to pursue focused professionallearning at their own pace, and on their own schedules. But they also raise a lot of questions for teachers and schools. It’s an exciting and daunting topic. How can teachers make the most of these opportunities?
