Edcamps, One-to-One initiatives, Flipped Class, BYOD and connected collaboration were all topics discussed and vetted long before they were even recognized in the brick and mortar world of education. I presented and held office in organizations in order to meet that goal to attend as many conferences as I could.
But the pandemic and forced distance learning have exposed a plethora of inequities in schools that many district leaders now see as issues they must address. In addition, the current reliance on distance learning—and the potential to need it again—has opened many families’ eyes as to why school are spending many on edtech.
This year’s conference was one of the largest, with packed sessions and presentations, and 18,540 attendees–a new attendee record. During the conference, ISTE opened enrollment for ISTE U , an online professionallearning hub for teachers and leaders to build critical skills for teaching and learning in a digital world.
Without professional development, educators become stuck in a rut, not knowing what best practices are and how to implement change in their school. This network has given me best practices, protocols, a professionallearning network, and has changed the culture of both schools in which I have worked.
