BYOD — Bring Your Own Device — has gained some momentum in today’s education system. From temp teachers to entire school districts, more and more educational staff debate about or seriously consider the adoption of BYOD in their instruction. Adopting BYOD in schools seems like a win-win situation.

Over the past couple of months, the staff at New Milford High School has been diligently creating our own unique learning environments for our students. Building on the success of our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative and with the addition of a new, innovative staff member two noteworthy advancements have been made since September 2013.
Last year, as schools were closing their gates, e-learning cybersecurity wasn’t exactly a top priority for most teachers. What doesn’t change is that e-learning is here to stay, as the benefits of using an online tool for class activities far outweigh the risks for both K-12 and Higher Ed organizations.

In districts where major construction projects are not on the horizon, leaders have another opportunity: the ability to experiment with learning environment designs a little at a time , allowing teachers, students and district leaders to come to a consensus on what works best for their needs.
BYOD at school is more than the latest buzz phrase you hear at every corner of the teacher’s rooms or along school hallways. More and more schools adopt BYOD policies and allow students to bring their own mobile phones, tablets, eBooks, and other devices in the classroom, and use them as tools to enhance learning.
Moving from a fixed to a growth mindset and feeding of the daily inspiration that connected learning provides gave me with the fuel to create a shared vision that eventually became a reality as a result of action. Recently, I found myself entangled with several people in a Twitter debate about whether BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policies actually perpetuate or aggravate the digital divide our students currently experience. Having a BYOD policy would seem to perpetuate the divide between the tech-haves and tech-have-nots.
However, when you take skill instruction out of context, that generally doesn't have the same impact on learning as it does if you embed skill instruction in the content areas. . So, if you're teaching things decontextualized and they don't necessarily have that schema, it's not within content, that's harder to learn.
