But while students are embracing BYOD with loud applause, educators are taking a step back and thinking about the impact BYOD has on their teaching. This week I am thinking about BYOD resources. Whether you’ve been doing BYOD for a number of years or just starting out there is something for everyone to learn.
Either 1:1 or BYOD or some combination of both is giving students the opportunity to discover learning or create new information in a variety of ways. But through a pilot program we discovered that the focus of our professional development around BYOD needed to not be on technology.
Now, as 1:1 and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) are taking over our schools, its becoming even easier to formatively assess what our students know and for our students to leave feedback as to what they need. So you don''t even have to be a 1:1 classroom or BYOD. Here are a few sites and apps to help with formative assessments.

Quick Collection of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Resources -Before I left my role as Director of Instructional Technology for a large district in North Carolina I was instituting a BYOD program. And during that time I collected a mountain of resources to implement BYOD effectively and get the most out of it for learning.

So while I was in an amazing session on digital leadership (which you should really check out the notes for) I could watch the notes for the BYOD or Twitter chats session. Again, its the wisdom of the crowd. And even if I couldn''t watch the notes in real time, I had them afterwards.
BYOD- Many are exploring the idea of Bring Your Own Device as an alternative to purchasing devices for students. BYOD can help. Of course all of this is a long way off but I do think we see more and more conversations about badges and their place in learning. Look at my district. 57,000 students. And we are only the 5th largest in NC.
Its a fabulous resource for helping teachers in 1:1, BYOD or any classroom better use technology for teaching and learning. Done through Google Hangouts, you can join live or see the recording of how various, popular apps are being used in the classroom. I am a big fan of what Common Sense Media has created with Graphite.
I had some wonderful conversations about technology integration, social media, BYOD and more. The idea was to bring together district and school level leaders to talk about what issues we are facing with technology and to learn with each other. But it was the opening keynote from Chris Lehman that was the big take away for me.
But through a pilot program they discovered that the focus of their professional development around BYOD needed to not be on technology. They were going to allow students to bring their own device to the classroom to use in the course of their learning.

When I began to introduce Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to my former district one of the questions (albeit anxiety filled) from teachers was with all these devices in the classroom how will we make sure students are doing what we need them to be doing? To start we will look at the basics, what it is and how it works.

With 1:1 and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs taking hold across the country (and the world) students have access to just about all known knowledge at their fingertips. To add to the physical changes happening in the classroom, they way students interact with each other, both in the class and outside the class, is shifting as well.
My friend Eric, just wrote a piece about how his school is using it as part of their BYOD initiative that you should take a look at. So if you are are in an environment where not everyone has texting on their phone or not everyone has a phone, everyone can still participate. ClassParrot-This is one I have written about in the past.
