The most popular form of the unconference is the Edcamp , but many conferences are scheduling an “unconference” day with this same format. At Edcamps across the world, teachers show up on a Saturday morning to an unconference location.
The traditional forms of sit-and-get PD are giving way to MOOCs, webinars, Edcamps and flipped learning. If we take the traditional staff meeting, many times the information shared is just “for your information” or anything that could be posted to a blog or in an email. Many schools and districts are trying to do the right thing by meeting the needs of as many educators as possible when it comes to professional learning. But the reality is most schools and districts are not equipped to personalize the professional development of every educator. Lots of great blogs in all these places.
In every facet of our practice there are other educators doing amazing things that we can all learn from. Through the creation of our PersonalLearning Network we find smart folks we can learn, share and grow with. The point is to go to those places and find the voices that matter to you and your learning.

However, the accelerators, including providing personalizedlearning opportunities for students, the building of community partnerships, and the adoption of more cloud platforms in school districts, are worth the hurdles they face to ensure digital equity for all students.

Having your own understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, is hugely beneficial not only in education, but in all elements of life, whether it is personal or professional. Idea: Blogs as Digital Portfolios are an opportunity to not only showcase learning, but an opportunity to take time to reflect and grow from the process.
In my workshops, I always encourage people that if the session doesn’t work for them, they are more than welcome to leave (but not in a threatening way, more in the idea of the Edcamp model of “voting with your feet”), or they can work on things that they are interested in learning.
Forget about the “Teacher Rockstars” mentality and go beyond gossiping and silly blog posts of those you feel snubbed you. Some sage advice- to have an incredible time at ISTE, get to know other teachers by exchanging ideas and having a good time. After all, this might be your one trip this year. Other Free Events.
Idea: Similar to the #EDUin30 initiative , staff could share through video reflections something that they have learned at a professional learning day, or on a monthly basis that could easily be compiled into a Storify document to be shared with the community. I reflect, therefore I learn. .
