In this post we highlight the power of Edcamps to support educators to learn from each other, and invite educators to participate in Edcamp: Powerful Learning at Home , an online professional learning event hosted by Digital Promise and Edcamp Foundation. Educators connect and collaborate at Edcamps.
On Saturday, November 4, more than 60 educators joined Digital Promise and Maker Ed for Edcamp: Maker Promise , a full day of powerful professional learning through and about making. Edcamp: Maker Promise was hosted by Friends’ Central School in Wynnewood, PA. Each year, there are an estimated 50 Edcamps held all over the world.

At Edcamps across the world, teachers show up on a Saturday morning to an unconference location.
The traditional forms of sit-and-get PD are giving way to MOOCs, webinars, Edcamps and flipped learning. If we take the traditional staff meeting, many times the information shared is just “for your information” or anything that could be posted to a blog or in an email. So in the span of 10 minutes we created #EdcampRogue , an impromptu session where we would gather, talk about the Edcamp Model of PD and how educators can get connected. At least time to talk and reflect on the learning and provide space to teach about blogging, Twitter, online communities, etc.
Even reading blog posts, articles in trade publications, books, or attending Edcamps, they want to constantly be examining their own practices, realizing opportunities for improvement and capitalizing on all that learning.
Edcamps too, while not brand new, have offered teachers and other educational professionals the opportunity to craft PD that is meaningful to them and really take back their own learning. There are sessions to choose from and the only requirement is that you attend a minimum amount of sessions for the day. There is a solution for that.
Non-traditional forms of professional learning such as the use of social media and Edcamps are valued, not dismissed. In future ready schools, technology and digital learning expand access to high-quality, ongoing, job-embedded opportunities for professional learning for teachers, administrators, and other education professionals.
What started as an idea to create a simple round table podcast quickly expanded into a “guest blog” when I decided to open the website up to supportive teachers looking to expand their own global footprint.
