In lieu of several such factual findings, educators have begun implementing a novel methodology, such as using blendedlearning software , that has transformed the rather archaic and mundane ‘classroom teaching’ into a revolutionary educational experience; enter the world of Blendedlearning. With summer fast approaching all over the Northern Hemisphere, kids are eager for time away from teachers, textbooks, and To-do lists. In Ireland, Italy, Greece, Russia, and other Eurasian nations, summer vacation lasts about three months. In Australia, Britain, The Netherlands, Canada, and Germany, it’s six to eight weeks.
In March of 2009, I began to use Twitter, and it was at this time that I began to create a Personal Learning Network (PLN). Through the use of socialmedia, I realized that I didn’t really need to be “developed.” It is crucial always to align any professional learning with current trends and needs.
Although there is still some debate about the benefits of increasing use of technology in schools, there appears to be plenty of evidence to show that, if used effectively, it can greatly enhance learning. However, blendedlearning takes the positive aspects of technology and combines them with tried and tested teaching methods.
Students do learn better when the chosen tech is complementary to the school’s educational methods. For example, blendedlearning cannot function without said tech. Fifty-nine percent of students who use socialmedia say they use it to discuss educational subjects with their peers. The facts are clear.
It is critical to get kids so immersed in their learning that they don’t think about surfing the web aimlessly, texting their friends, or accessing socialmedia. During situations like this is when I commonly observe kids focused on anything but the learning at hand.
Here I get to experience firsthand how many of the ideas that are talked about on socialmedia and at conferences are successfully implemented into practice.
