Technology plays a huge role, which is why all efforts need to be made to eliminate the digital divide. To create empowering opportunities for all kids that involve more ownership over their learning requires us to think beyond synchronous learning that is just online. The key, however, is balance.

A move to real personalized learning at scale is the most logical step. At the same time, the digital divide has to be tackled where all learners have equitable access to a device, reliable WIFI, and quality resources. Many have realized how vital they were to continuity in learning, whether it was remote or hybrid.

As the Coronavirus has changed the landscape of education, I have become more and more aware of inequity and the digital divide. Over seven years ago I worked with our District Technology Director and Superintendent to create a 1:1 e-learning program that would be used to make up snow days.
