As I work with leadership teams, many are struggling to engage their teachers in professionallearning this year. They are excited about the potential of leveraging this technology to create more dynamic, differentiated, and student-centered learning experiences. Just as with students, every teacher is unique. Teachers are scrambling to move their offline courses online to ensure that students continue learning for the remainder of the school year. Understandably, the focus is on online learning as that is a new and unfamiliar learning landscape for a lot of educators.
What I want to avoid is a situation where teachers are presented with an alternative schedule in August and given a handful of professional development days to figure out how to adjust a semester’s worth of curriculum for a hybrid schedule. Schools may need to get creative when it comes to their course catalog.
Learning online will also help us become better teachers and now is the perfect time to take an online course. So, in this blog post, I’m going to share 20 teaching areas that are relevant to distance learning and why these topics might be one you choose to take a professional development course to learn this summer.
