How can technology and onlinelearning materials be used effectively in a math class? I realize many teachers are familiar with this review game, but I use it to collect quick formative assessment data. For my circles unit, I made a Google lockbox and embedded it into my learning management system, Schoology.
Perhaps the most concerning survey result is that more than half of teachers (57 percent) say they do not feel prepared to facilitate remote and onlinelearning. I was awarded this new technology and started to rewrite my curriculum for onlinelearning. My first year into this new teaching model I decided to develop my curriculum as an onlinelearning portal. I tried several web-based learning management systems including Google Classroom and Schoology.
It also meant developing features that would support fully onlinelearning. Staff at PowerSchool, which owns learning management system Schoology, also built new features and beefed up existing ones in response to changes in usage. As a result, the company worked to support this increased usage.
They bought other companies to try to blend assessment and curriculum as they also continued publishing. On the other hand, companies like Curriculum Associates took the path of blended learning and have seen significant growth driven by a technology-first model. Predictions about onlinelearning didn’t really hit the mark, either.
We are focusing primarily on communication—both delivering it and managing it—rather than learning or assessment techniques. In our experience, when working online, you have to treat communication like air; you have to pump it through the system. Instead, it serves as an extension of and bridge between life experiences.
If you did not require that every teacher in the district must use the adopted LMS (Learning Management System a.k.a Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, etc) before now, you’re too late.
