Everywhere I look I'm seeing 'Flip teaching' or 'Flippedclassroom'. There's a lot of hype about this 'flipping' idea and it's getting me flipping irritated. What does flipping actually involve? Even Aaron Sams, a highly visible proponent of the flipped movement admits that the term is ambiguous.
Technology also allows educators to provide real time formative assessment, but also effective formative learning opportunities. As I will write about in a future article, SAMR has a direct relationship with student centered learning. In fact it can even amplify teaching, as experienced in the flippedclassroom.
Universities are replete with lecture capture tools, interactive media, web based content and personal response technologies; students arrive equipped with social media and mobile devices; technologysupported distance education has been long established; universities are experimenting with flippedclassrooms, gaming and MOOCs.
