“Representation matters, and many students of color simply don’t see themselves in most traditional classroom texts. This collection helps address this issue and supports teachers in creating inclusive classrooms where stories are discussed and embraced and where students learn about each other’s culture and heritage.
The two programs have been approved for a five-year period, beginning April 1, 2021 and ending March 31, 2026. The process saw education experts review the materials and ensure they aligned with Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) K-12 English language arts materials were the focus of the 2020-2021 year.
