An estimated 23% of households that make up the broadband affordability gap are MDU residents. Recognizing this critical gap, Chicago’s Digital Equity Council prioritized connecting MDUs in its latest Neighborhood Broadband Request for Proposals (RFP). This partnership began with our response to an RFI issued in 2022.

One cohort member, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC), has been advancing ACP advocacy work in southwest Ohio and the tri-state area. By 2025, we aim to increase digital access by 5 percent, with a particular focus on families with low incomes. We also work in partnership with the state’s broadband office, Broadband Ohio.

There are also Education Stabilization Fund – Rethink Education Models (ESF-REM) grants, and they also can be used to provide broadband access as part of a new education model. In addition, the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER) allow each state’s governor to select projects that then receive federal funds.
