In all, ISTE 2017 produced 159,000 tweets from people across the U.S. The most popular topics, based on number of sessions, focused on creativity and productivity tools (113), innovative learning environments (108), online tools and resources (82), constructivist learning and the maker movement (77), and programming and robotics (70).

For our beginning of the year passion projects, some students chose to teach others about our robotic filming Swivl tool and app. Maker Movement. Many schools are creating maker spaces or “ Fab Labs ” so students have a space and place to invent. Some people might call it a personal interest project.

Date: Tuesday, November 28, 2017. We work with robotics, because robotics are tools that allow them to learn coding and to learn abstract logic and thinking while not sitting in front of a computer screen. So robots have motors, they have sensors, they can move around. Each block represents a command for the robot.

Considering how robots could replace 38 percent of jobs in the U.S. schools will give way to an increased focus on STEM and coding in schools, reinvigorating the “maker movement.” As the maker movement continues to make its way into the mainstream, a growing number of K-12 schools in the U.S.
