Quick Collection of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Resources -Before I left my role as Director of Instructional Technology for a large district in North Carolina I was instituting a BYOD program. And during that time I collected a mountain of resources to implement BYOD effectively and get the most out of it for learning.

The key , whether 1:1 or BYOD, is to thoroughly plan and put learning at the forefront for kids, teachers, and administrators. As the principal, I decided to implement Bring Your Own Device back in 2010 as a way to not only take advantage of student-owned devices but to also improve the learning culture through more empowerment and ownership.
This was an extremely big deal five years ago and ultimately gave us an edge in terms of the many successful initiatives we rolled out including Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and digital learning across the curriculum. Obviously I was extremely naive to think this.
On March 5, 2014, I was privileged to moderate and participate on a panel on Bridging the Digital Divide with BYOD Equity at the SXSWedu conference in Austin, Texas. Forsyth County Schools was an early trailblazer in BYOD initiatives and is looked to nationwide as a resource for how to implement BYOD and implement it well.
2014 is the third year they have published the report, exploring innovations in teaching, learning and assessment. Well I missed out on writing a review for 2013 so I thought I’d get in reasonably early and write some predictions for what might happen in 2014. It will get louder in 2014. Expect MOOCs to continue to be the most high profile focus of academic angst in 2014. These types of projects will be just outliers in 2014.

Sure, there were lots of devices released in 2014 and the years before, but 2015 was the mobile age. BYODBYOD was already partially implemented in some schools these past few years, but 2016 will see more and more schools playing catch with the implementation. Just to get things going, here’s a recap of 2015.

Given that many children were acquiring iPads for personal use, some schools adopted a Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD) Policy.
