Competency-Based Learning. Competency-Based Education is something I’m hearing more and more about, which is neither bad nor good, but worth understanding more carefully. MOOCs are great ideas, but assessment and feedback loops and certification are among the many issues holding them back.

In 2011, Barber went to work for Pearson as its Chief Education Advisor, continuing his advocacy for competition, data collection, measurements, and standards-based reforms. In 2013, on the heels of “the Year of the MOOC,” Barber released a report titled “An Avalanche is Coming,” calling for the “unbundling” of higher education.
